This is also a “supper-fatted” soap which means some of the Olive and Castor oils remain, giving the soap a soft moisturizing feel. This kind of soap has been known as Castile Soap, Marseilles Soap, Nabulsi Soap, and Aleppo Soap. Over the centuries, soaps like this have washed babies and lovers, women and men, mothers and fathers, and now it washes you.
This Olive Oil Soap is fragrance free and made of 90% olive oil and 10% castor oil, which provide significant conditioning benefits. Olive oil is high in Oleic Acid, which keeps skin cells soft and fluid. This is the principal reason Olive oil is so moisturizing. Olive oil also has significant Linoleic Acid, which also has beneficial properties on the skin. Research points to linoleic acid’s anti-inflammatory, acne reductive, and moisture retentive properties when applied topically on the skin. Castor oil is approximately 90% Ricinoleic Acid, which provides additional conditioning benefits as well as lather and creaminess. Research has shown that Ricinoleic acid has both analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects.
This soap is perfect for anyone trying to find a soap that will be gentle on the skin. The olive oil will leave a trace amount of soothing oil and the castor oil will help ease inflammation. Since this soap, like all our soaps, does not strip off natural oils in the skin, you may feel a difference when you use this product. Your skin may feel like there is a bit of moisturizer on the surface. Wait a few moments and let the oils sink in. Then “Feel the Difference.”
Olive oil is high in Oleic (69%), Palmic (14%), and linoleic (12%) acids. Oleic acid keeps cell membranes soft and fluid, allowing helpful anti-inflammatory substances like omega-3 fatty acid to penetrate the cell membrane more easily. Linoleic acid belongs to one of the two families of essential fatty acids that humans and animals must ingest because the body requires them for various biological processes, but cannot synthesize them from other food components. Linoleic acid has beneficial properties on the skin. Research points to linoleic acid’s anti-inflammatory, acne reductive, and moisture retentive properties when applied topically on the skin. Ricinoleic acid has both analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects.
Honey Bee Bar is made with wildflower honey from Chapman Farms. We blend the honey with Olive, Castor, Coconut and Palm oils. We then spread on some Shea and Cocoa butters. The warm color comes from the honey and the smooth feeling is from the silk threads we add to our recipe. The top has been dusted with gold cosmetic mica we got just for this soap.
Our bees roam the woods and gardens and collect pollen that makes a deep amber color honey with many wonderful qualities. Historically, honey has been used by humans to treat a variety of ailments. It has also been used for centuries as a treatment for sore throats and coughs and, treating cuts and sore skin. But please, do not eat our Honey Bee Bar.
One other important quality of both Honey and Castor oil is that both these ingredients are known as “humectants“. Humectants are compounds that have two important qualities. First, they attract moisture from the air to the skin. Second, they help dissolve active ingredients, like beneficial oils or medicine, which improves their ability to penetrate the skin.
The sugar in Honey helps our soap lather and makes it great for the bath or shower. This soap is gentle enough that women can wash their face with it and it will not dry out their skin. However you use it, you will enjoy the light citrus fragrance and the scent of summer.
